Weed library - Stinkwort (Dittrichia graveolens)

Stinkwort is a poisonous annual herb that can grow 20-50cm tall.

Stinkwort is covered in white hairs that is sticky to touch and has a strong aromatic smell (camphor like).

The sparsely spaced leaves are light grey to green in colour, growing 1-4 cm long and 0.1-0.8cm wide.

The plant produced small flowers with yellow rays and yellow to reddish discs.

Stinkwort is a difficult to control plant as herbicides generally cannot penetrate the plants oily leaves

Control Tips

Broad Sweep Broadleaf Herbicide is registered for the control of stinkwort.

When using Broad Sweep in a high volume spraying situation:

  • Spray all leaves and stems to the point of runoff
  • Spray small, young and actively growing plants
  • Use a high quality non ionic wetting agent like Weed Forces Holdfast for best results. Helping to improve wetting and herbicide penetration of the plant foliage

  • DO NOT spray when the plant is stressed (i.e. Drought, physical damage, insect damage etc)
