Weed library - Sweet Briar (Rosa rubiginosa)


Sweet Briar is an erect perennial shrub that generally grows to 1.5-2 meters high.

Sweet Briar flowers in late spring producing pink to white flowers.

The fruit produced by the sweet briar is orange-red in color, oval shaped with short spines. The fruit contains numerous, irregularly shaped seeds.

Control Tips

Gusto Woody and Noxious Weed Herbicide is registered for the control Sifton Bush.

When using Gusto in a high volume spraying situation:


  • Thoroughly wet the whole plant with the spray, including the crown of the plant.
  • Spray actively growing plants
  • Spray the plants from the full leaf stage through to ripe fruit BUT prior to leaf fall.
  • Gusto controls plants up to 1.5m tall


  • DO NOT spray when the plant is stressed (i.e. Drought, physical damage, insect damage etc)
